In 2024, PBC’s monitoring visits to Kele Primary School in Erusi Subcounty, Nebbi District, exposed a severe shortage of desks, forcing pupils to sit on the floor and creating an uncomfortable and unhygienic learning environment. But thanks to PBC’s swift action, this challenge has been successfully addressed.
Following their monitoring visit, PBC members saw an urgent need for desks at Kele Primary School and acted. They raised the issue at the Subcounty budget conference, advocating for support to improve the school’s learning environment. Their efforts paid off when the Subcounty included funds for desks in their budget plan for 2025/2026, a crucial step towards enhancing education at the school.
The impact of PBC’s advocacy efforts was palpable when Laka Adam, LC III Chairperson of Erusi Sub- County in Nebbi district, expressed his appreciation for their work. As Laka Adam noted:
“The very first thing I can tell you, is that you have given us a very very strong and powerful team, these are our own people, I know all of them, they came here introduced themselves to us since they joined CSBAG and we have been with them on the ground, they did monitoring several times, and I remember last year on 15th October 2024 we held a budget conference and they had a report to present, their presentation was unique. They had finding that Kele Primary school had inadequate desks, and their finding was right. It is my prayer that you never leave these people behind, if your renewing, renew these people.”
This glowing endorsement highlights the success of PBC’s community-driven advocacy in addressing critical educational challenges. By amplifying local concerns and actively engaging with decision-makers, the PBCs contributed to securing essential resources for Kele Primary School. With continued collaboration and commitment of the PBCs and the duty bearers, the school is set to offer a more conducive learning environment, ultimately enhancing the well-being and academic success of its pupils.”
