CSOs warn Govt agencies on poor coordination as sh400b in taxes is lost

The tax revenue losswas reported in the recently released Auditor General’s Report.The CSOs under theirumbrella body Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) said this during a Press Conference on Domestic Revenue Mobilisation, that took place at CSBAG offices on February16th, 2020.

The Press Conference was organised by CSBAG in conjunction with Tax Justice Alliance Uganda. Theirconcerns follow the recent half year tax collection report by URA in which almost sh700b shortfall was registered by the tax body. “TheAuditor General’s report (December 2019) notes that lack of coordination and cooperation between several government agencies and Uganda Revenue Authority has resulted in revenue leakages,” said Julius Mukunda, the Executive Director CSBAG.
